The programme

Breed.
Nurture.
Compete.

Three stages, one quiet philosophy. Every horse in the Bulimba book moves through the same programme — from foal at foot in Queensland, through a structured education between Ireland and Australia, to a campaign that builds a career rather than burns it.

01 / BREED

Pedigree, not fashion.

The studbook is built on Irish foundation mares put to chosen European stallions — Cassini, Quidam, Diarado, Heartbreaker, Argento, Cruising.

We don't chase a flavour-of-the-year sire. We chase a temperament that holds up under a long programme, movement that pays at the line-up, and scope that gives the horse options at five, six and seven.

Every cross is decided in person between the Cork and Queensland operations. We breed for ten years out, not next season's catalogue cover.

The Bulimba foal is grown out. Pastures first, paddock company second, handlers third. We back at four, not three. We long-rein and ground-work for months before a rider sits on. The three-year-old never sees a 1.20 m fence.

By the time a horse leaves the programme as a five-year-old, it has been through a structured 24-month education plan covering flatwork, gymnastics, trailer loading, hacking out, water, ditches, and a quiet introduction to atmosphere — before ever stepping into a class.

Pre-competition
02 / NURTURE

Time in the paddock.

Slow production. Structured education. The horse's clock, not ours.

03 / COMPETE

Campaign with restraint.

We pull horses off the truck rather than push through one bad show.

Age Stage Height
4 yo Schooling at home
5 yo Young horse classes 1.10 m
6 yo Stepping up regionally 1.20 m
7 yo National 7yo classes 1.30 m
8 yo CSI / CCI level 1.40 m
9 yo + Senior career 1.50 m +

The pace is the point. Six-year-olds at 1.20 m. Sevens at 1.30 m. A horse that's still sound and willing at twelve is the only kind we're interested in producing.
